Hard to find currently playing track with long queue list

Steven Benett Apr 20, 2012 10:15AM PDT

It would be nice if the Queue's currently playing track was updated in real-time. After the current playing track passes the visible point on the screen (below the screen), its nearly impossible to find the current track. This would like to see this because sometimes I want to find more info, add to collection/playlist, etc., and I cannot do this without leaving the queue page (by clicking artist or track info on bottom left of screen). Or to remove a track from the queue, which is very hard to do because I can't find the track. Also, as the cursor moves over tracks, the 'play' button makes it seem like the track being hovered over is the currently playing track. A highlight or grey-light on current track would be nice to distinguish between the two.

Hi Steven,

Thanks for writing in. To see the currently playing song, scroll down to the end of the Queue. The playing song is indicated by a speaker icon.

For more information on the features of the Queue, please also visit our help site: http://help.rdio.com/customer/portal/articles/58972-queue

If you’re not seeing this, send along a screenshot of your Queue as well as your what browser and OS you’re on and we will investigate further.

Best,
Claudia

I'd second the idea of having the queue scroll so that the playing track shows at all times, even if the queue is shuffled. I know there is an indicator against the current track but sometimes when scrolling through a long list it whizzes past unseen.

Not sure how easy it would be to implement the suggestion, however...

This is a user interface problem which spans across multiple platforms and always happens when one has larger playlists. If Rdio wants user to interact with tracks and let them manage playlists more easily they need to work on the accessibility of these features.

This doesn't mean the interface needs to be cluttered as Spotify's interface is. Here are some possible solutions [with quick and dirty mockups]:

- Highlight the active played track (not only with a speaker icon) to make it easier to spot the active track in a playlist:
- Example 1: http://cl.ly/InBX
- Example 2: http://cl.ly/InIm

- Suggestion for the mobile version - screen shot of a touch gesture that scrolls to the currently played track: http://cl.ly/Insf

- Suggestion for the desktop version - scrolls to the currently played track: http://cl.ly/Insy
