How do I use Rdio on my mobile device?
Rdio's apps for Android, iOS and Windows Phone give you mobile access to your Rdio Collection. With our mobile apps, you can also sync albums, songs and playlists so you can listen even when you're offline.
What is Sync to Mobile?
The "Sync to Mobile" option saves music from your Collection directly to your mobile device. Tracks that you set to sync will be saved directly on your phone so that you can listen even if you don't have an internet connection.
To sync, simply longpress an album or song, then select "Sync to Mobile".
Music will begin syncing the next time you have an active connection on your mobile device. Synced music is stored directly within the Rdio app on your device, and will remain on your device as long as you have an active Rdio Unlimited account or trial.
See our Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows Phone or BlackBerry guides for further information on syncing music to your mobile device.
What is Offline Mode?
Use Offline Mode when you want to use the Rdio app without an internet connection (you will also automatically be bumped into offline mode when your device can't find an active wifi/data connection). In Offline mode, only music that you've synced to your device will still be available for listening.
How do I switch between Online and Offline Mode?
Rdio's mobile apps will automatically detect whether or not your phone has an internet connection. You can also manually switch to Offline Mode in the menu by pressing "Go Offline"
How can I add or remove music in my offline collection from my computer?
You can manage your offline collection from your computer (at Rdio.com) or directly on your mobile device.
On Rdio.com, click on the action menu to select Sync to Mobile or Remove from Mobile. An orange badge will appear on music once it's been set for Sync to Mobile.
Where can I find my mobile device's sync progress?
Your phone's sync progress is viewable within the Rdio app by going to Menu > Sync.
How much music can I sync to my mobile device?
You can sync as much music as your phone's memory will allow. Unfortunately, 15 GB of music won't fit into 10 GB of space! Once your phone's memory is full, the app won't sync more music until you've made more space available.
How can I minimize the data used by Rdio?
There are a few ways to conserve it when using Rdio on your mobile device:
Sync Your Music
Synced music is stored directly on your device, and does not need a WiFi or cellular data connection to play. Whether you’re Online or Offline in your Rdio app, synced songs will play locally on your device, and won’t use any data.
Stream and Sync Over a WiFi Connection
Connect to WiFi for higher-quality streams and faster syncing without using any cellular data.
Customize your Sync Settings
Here's how you can control whether the app will start syncing automatically when you are online, and whether to use your cellular data or WiFi:
- On an iOS device, go to Settings and tap Advanced—you can select “WiFi Only” to minimize cellular data use by ensuring the phone will only sync when connected to a WiFi network.
- On an Android device you can do this by going to Settings, and set automatic syncing to “WiFi Only.”
