Rdio for Mac and Windows FAQ

Last Updated: Mar 06, 2013

What are the Rdio for Mac/Windows apps?

We designed Rdio for Mac especially for Mac OS X (10.6+) computers. Rdio for Windows will work with Windows Vista, XP (Service pack 3+) and Windows 7.

Because these are native apps, you can enjoy everything you already love about Rdio directly from your desktop, without needing to keep a browser tab open. The desktop apps also manage MP3 downloads.

Where can I get the Rdio desktop apps?

Rdio for Mac and Windows can be found right here.

What can I do with the Apps?

Rdio for Mac/Windows has all the same functionality as the Rdio website. You’ll be able to:

  • Add to your Collection

  • Select songs and playlists to sync to mobile

  • Create, edit, and subscribe to Playlists

  • Play Rdio Stations

  • Share what you’re listening to with your network of friends

  • And much, much more...

How do I match my collection?

From the File menu, select Match Collection to match tracks from your existing iTunes Library with Rdio’s catalog.

Match Collection reads your (music) library file, looks for names of artists, albums and songs, and sends those names to Rdio. Tracks that it finds will be added directly to your Rdio Collection.

Rdio for Mac/Windows will automatically search for your music library file in its default location. (On Mac, this is: /Users/[your username]/Music/iTunes Music Library.xml)

If your collection of music is somewhere else (say, an external hard drive), you can click “Change” to manually specify a different location.

Why do I see songs or albums on Rdio that weren’t matched?

Collection matching is an imperfect science, and unfortunately variances in metadata can make it less accurate.

Can I download music from the Mac/Windows apps?

Just like on Rdio.com, you can download songs and albums available for purchase by clicking their action menu, and selecting the “Download Song” (or album) option.

For more details on downloads, see this article.

Will the media keys on my computer control what I'm listening to?

Yes! You can control what’s playing in Rdio with your keyboard controls. [Note: The keyboard controls are system-wide; if you have multiple media players open these keys will affect them too.]

What About My Apple Remote?

It works too!

Why does the Mac app log me out?

If you use Safari, make sure to uncheck "Remove all Website Data" from the Reset Safari menu. The Rdio for Mac app works within Safari's framework.
