I just installed the desktop application for Windows XP (Media Center Edition, Version 2002, SP3), but as soon as the installation is finished, the application crashes as soon as it opens. I uninstalled the program, and then restarted my computer. After restarting, I tried installing it again without many programs running in the background and had the same problem. Let me know if you need any more information about my computer and/or operating system.
P.S. I'm on a free trial and was considering switching from Rhapsody because of stability issues on their desktop/mobile apps.
Aaron,
Thanks for getting in touch with us, sorry that you're experiencing a problem. Please send us the following file so that we can investigate the cause:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Rdio\rdio.log
On Windows XP your username may be "Owner" if you have never configured any additional users. Also, "Local Settings" is an invisible folder. To view invisible folders:
Select "Control Panel" from the Start menu.
Click "Appearance"
Click "Folder Options"
Click the "View" tab
In the "Advanced Settings" list, select "Show hidden files and folders"
Thanks,
--Anthony
Thank you for your help. I have emailed support with the file attached.
Aaron,
Thanks for sending us the log file. We have tested Rdio for Windows with Windows XP Service Pack 3, but not specifically with Media Center Edition, which may be the cause of the problem.
Can you tell me which theme you are using? You can see the current and available themes using Control Panel->Change the computer's theme.
Can you try changing your theme to something else and seeing if Rdio starts successfully?
Thanks,
--Anthony
Anthony,
I had the theme set to 'Classic View (Modified)' (presumably because I changed the background or a color somewhere). When I changed it to either the Windows XP theme or plain Classic View, the application opened without crashing and appears to be running fine right now. Thank you for your help.
Thanks,
Aaron
Aaron,
Great news. I'm not sure why certain nonstandard themes would prevent Rdio from working, but I'm glad to hear that you found a configuration that does work. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please don't hesitate to get back in touch with us if you have any other questions or concerns.
Thanks,
--Anthony
