Sync'd Songs will not play/offline collection not populating content properly

Adam Rolland May 17, 2012 02:41PM PDT

I am using HTC Incredible S and have recently installed the May 15th 2012 update of the software. My syncd offline songs are not playing properly. They will work fine for a few songs, but then I am unable to load any further tracks. Sometimes if I pause the track, and hit play a few times I can get the songs playing, but at times this does not work either. App is still responsive and is not freezing, but track counter will not commence, and no music playing. I have tried restarting phone and uninstalling and reinstalling the application but this does not seem to help either.

There are also issues with what is being displayed in my Syncd Collection. I am only seeing two albums no matter what I try. I have tried clearing all offline collection through the web UI, and resyncing, etc. And albums in 'Syncd Only' still only displays the same two albums, despite others being syncd to mobile if I browse.

Please help - I am a new user to your service and am very impressed with the web version, but the Android application is currently causing me much frustration.

Thank you!

Hi Adam,

Thanks for writing in. Since you've already tried reinstalling the app, lets try completely wiping it clean and reinstalling fresh to make sure no residual issues are left over. Here are directions on how to completely wipe the app, and reinstall:

- Connect your device to your computer, and select "USB mass storage" for the connection type on your Android device.
- Once mounted as an external volume, find the file named "com.rdio.android.ui", delete it, and empty your trash. (Directory location: Android>Data>com.rdio.android.ui)
- Eject your device, unmount it, confirm the app was properly erased, and restart the phone.
- Log onto your Rdio account from a computer, and reset your synced collection, and un-sync your synced playlists.
- After resetting your synced collection, reinstall the Rdio app from the Google Play store.

Once you've reinstalled, try syncing one album only, preferably over Wifi. If the sync works, try a few more. If you're still seeing issues, let me know and I'll investigate further.

Best,
Mike

Hi Mike,
I have followed your suggestion and playback functionality seems to have restored for the time being.

Although after syncing one album successfully over wifi I proceeded to sync the rest of my offline collection. Once it completed, I went back to 'Collection' and chose 'Syncd Only' and only the first album showed up, despite having about 60 albums syncd. I can still access the albums by searching title, or via playlists, but cannot browse to them through 'Collection'.

I suspect this may be a bug in the new build of the Android app, as this worked fine prior to the update. Any possibility of having this looked at and corrected in a future update?

Thanks for your help and quick response.

Via further investigation It may have something to do with the way Offline collection is populated. I create a playlist for all my favourite new releases, and sync that playlist to add albums to my offline collection. In previous version of Rdio Android app these albums still showed up on offline sync filter of the collection, but now it seems the only way to populate this section is to individually add albums to 'Sync to offline' . All seems well now. Thanks again for your assistance.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for following up, and I'm happy to hear the app seems to have been stabilized.

To follow up on the synced albums versus synced playlists issue; currently, syncing a playlist will only show it in the playlists tab of the app—in order for the tracks to appear both in your collection, as well as your playlists, you'll have to sync them from both places. You'll notice that if you choose to sync a playlist that is composed of music from your collection, the same songs (as in the playlist) will not be marked as "synced to mobile" when you view them in your collection. Sorry for any inconvenience with storage space this may cause—we are aware of this issue, and we're considering more options for the future.

Thanks so much for your cooperation and feedback, and please let me know if you have any other questions or issues in the future.

Cheers,
Mike
