Mobile app drops off

Matt Herzberger Jun 07, 2012 06:39AM PDT

I am using the mobile app to stream in my car. On a pretty regular basis my app will drop off right after the transition to a new song. I live in Miami so there aren't really any dead spots as far as service. Usually when it happens it will play one or two seconds of the new song and then it is as though I paused it, but I didn't. I have the lower streaming rate set, is this a common issue?

Hi Matt,

If the issue is only with streamed (and not synced) music, it may be related to your 3g network. This isn't a common issue for us. Can you do a quick speedtest.net test next time this is happening? You can get the app for free in the app store. You'll also want to make sure your phone has been restarted recently and that you have the most recent version of the Rdio app.

Best,
Nate

Thanks for the update Matt. Can you set your streaming quality to high for a little bit for some testing. Let's see if the same issue continues on that setting.

Nate

Hi Matt,

I've alerted our engineering team to your issue. Please keep us posted over the next few days if your streaming problems continue.

Thanks,

So I did a bit more testing and here are a few things to add. For one it has been pretty bad the last two days and I have done a few phone restarts.

Also another thing that was weird. I previously had spotify a few months ago and had this same issue a ton. However I dont have this issue at all with pandora. Do you know if rdio and spotify stream in a diff way or quality than pandora?

Also to add I do have a bluetooth device http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=525857 which again never issues with ipod or pandora just rdio and spotify.

Not sure if that helps but thought I would add

I did a search for "bluetooth" and found a number of issues similar to mine
http://help.rdio.com/customer/portal/articles/search?kb_topic_ids=27647%2C27648%2C27649%2C27650%2C27651%2C27652%2C27653%2C27654%2C27655%2C27656%2C27658%2C27659%2C203043%2C27781%2C27773%2C27774%2C27775%2C27776%2C27777%2C27778%2C27779%2C27780%2C205641&page=3&q=bluetooth

Also a bit more in depth explanation of my issue.
1. I am listening
2. It goes to pause
3. I click the bluetooth button to re-sync
4. It plays 1 second of audio then stops
5. I have to hit play again on the app

Thanks for the additional info Matt, I'll submit a bug report to engineering.

Nate
