WP app issues

VInce Hall Jun 18, 2012 12:03PM PDT

Running latest app version on latest OS for Nokia Lumia 900 06/18/2012:

1. When no cell coverage and screen locks, the music stops playing because the WIFI goes to sleep. (I am connected to wifi at work all day however cell coverage is spotty)
Does this mean when I am at home and WIFI goes to sleep I am useing my 4g data plan to stream?
2. Often when listening to music then taking a call then returning to music, song plays however the next one in the que does not.
3. When out of the app for a phone call, often return to play music and the app lost where i was.
3.5. Even worse there is no history so I cannot even get back to where I was:(

I add my experience... Problems: 1. Even in offline constantly loads mobile data, 2. Very slow sync and browsing (the collection) 3. Playback interruptions - cannot often play next tracks (in offline mode, tracks locally stored) 4. Sometimes the app crashes 5. Failed to resume playback after some time when paused... Please solve it!!!

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for the reports of what you're seeing in the Windows7Phone app; we really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. I'll share these issues with the Windows Phone team for optimization in the future and let you know if they need any more info.

I don't think the screen-lock issue is something we can work around, since the Windows Phone OS automatically shuts Wifi down while the screen is locked. I believe if you're still streaming with the screen locked, then it would be over your carrier's data connection, but I'm not %100 on that.

If either of you notice any change or additional issues, please do let us know, and I'll let you know of any updates or information I can find.

Best,
Mike

Mike,

The problem is somewhat related to WiFi of the App, because there are other applications that leave the WiFi on the phone in the standby mode, such as Skype and TuneIn Radio. Please check and update the APP.

By the way, I'm using the Brazilian version of the app, called Oi Rdio.

Regards,

Marco.

I continue to struggle with the stability of the Windows phone 7 app. I have RDIO running on many other devices/applications (IOS, SONOS, IE, Chrome) without issue yet Windows phone 7 has been a poor experience.

I am on the latest version of the software and am always looking for new updates. Something I can never understand is how my app can be buffering songs when I am offline and and I have sync'd the music to my device.

I use my WP7 at work and like to listen to RDIO there. I am not streaming and am listening to sync'd music. The experience is so poor that I now bring in my IPod Touch as I know I will have an enjoyable listening experience this way.

Current issues:
- buffering sync'd music
- rapid fast forwarding/skipping of songs
- every second song plays. I can listen to a song then the next song will begin, play for about 5 seconds and then it skips again
- If I reboot my phone, the RDIO app will be stable and I can listen to music. Then if I get a call , txt or email, I check it and then struggle with stability afterwards.

Like I said, I love the service and the variety of devices and platforms that you do support but please fix the WP7 experience. I have run into issues on both the Nokia 800 and the LG Optimus 7. If you are looking for some 'community help' with testing I am willing to do so, as I just want to see this fixed.

Thanks,
Kent

I have the exact same issues as Kent is experiencing on my Lumia 900 with Rogers. If I manually skip to the next track when playing music, it seems to be ok, but I really don't want to be doing that constantly while driving. If I miss manually skipping before the end of a song, then I will get about 3 seconds of the next song before crashing. Also sometimes when manually skipping songs, it will suddenly start cycling through every song in the playlist on its own... it will start buffering a song for about a second, then move to the next in the queue and continue doing this until I kill the phone or launch the app again.

Like Kent, I am also not streaming music, but playing sync'd music on a playlist that I had created and synced to the phone. It gets to the point that I end up becoming fed-up with having to mess with the app that I just turn on the radio and let the application go off into space skipping tracks and hanging.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for contributing to the discussion. We're aware a few things that could use some attention in the current version of the WindowsPhone App, and are continuing to work on updates and improvements. My sincere apologies for any inconvenience in the meantime. I'll pass your reports along to the WindowsPhone team, and we'll continue working for a fix.

Best,
Mike

Upgraded to version 3.12 that was offered to me in the marketplace yesterday, and used the app on my ride into work today. So far my issues appear to the resolved :)

Thanks!!!

I have latest version as well and it seems to be a little more reliable but when it crashes it crashes hard. For instance on my run yesterday the App and subsequently my phone locked up twice. Both times in the third song. I had to hard reboot the phone. So suffice to say I bring my IPOD shuffle as a backup device and had to use it on my last two runs. All in all this is very discouraging knowing how stable the IOS and Android apps are.

Also, when you are in offline mode how is it possible to "buffer" a song?

Hi everyone,

Glad to hear there have been some general improvements, although we're definitely interested in investigating the crashes you've described. Let me know a few more details on what you're seeing:

- How consistently do you see the crashes?
- Did you see this while streaming, or offline? If streaming, on Wifi or 3G?
- Does the app blunder before the whole phone freezes, or does music stop instantaneously with the music?
- Was it the third song of the same album or playlist, or a different song each crash? If it was the same song, let me know the track name and artist.

Fill me in on these details, and I'll investigate further.

Thanks again for your patience,
Mike
