Narrow new releases based artists in my Collection

Nick Kocharhook Jul 01, 2012 06:13PM PDT

Whenever I look at the New Releases sidebar section, I'm overwhelmed by tens to hundreds of artists I'm neither familiar with nor interested in. While it's nice once in awhile to go searching for new artists, the mere fact that an artist's work is newly added to Rdio doesn't imply I'm going to like it.

Relatedly, I quite frequently have it happen that I discover days, weeks or even months late that an artist I love has released a new album.

These two problems could be neatly solved by adding a filter to the New Releases section which shows only releases by artists which are already in my Collection. That way, I can frequently visit that tab and see very quickly if there's anything new, and it's nearly guaranteed to be an artist I'll be interested in. No more having to wade through the new Justin Bieber and "40 Summer Trance Hits 2012" before finding out that Glen Hansard has released a new record.

Obviously, this isn't the only piece of the puzzle to discovering new music. But I hope you agree that it would be a major improvement over the way it works now.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for writing in. No plans at the moment to implement a collection filter to the New Releases section, butI'll definitely share your request to add filters in order to personalize relevance and suitability of Releases.

Feel free to let us know of any other feature requests or questions you might have.

Best,
Mike
