Editing playlists

Kara Mallery Palette Jul 15, 2012 07:32AM PDT

I'm having trouble editing playlists. First, is there a way to delete more than one song at a time from a playlist?

The problem I'm having is that if I'm deleting several songs in a row, it doesn't seem to refresh quickly enough and some of the songs come back and sometimes I mistakenly delete songs I didn't want to remove from the playlist.

I'm using the Mac desktop version on my iMac with OSX 10.6.8.

Hi Kara,

No current plans to implement bulk selection or deletion from playlists, but thanks for letting us know this is something you'd like to see us offer; I'll share your suggestions with the rest of the team.

I'm not seeing too much latency between deletions here in the office. Try restarting the app and close any other instances of Rdio you have open, and let me know if you're still seeing latency.

Best,
Mike

Thank you for your response. That would be great if bulk selection could be introduced. I like having just my one playlist - "To Check Out" - where I gather a bunch of albums I want to check out before adding to my collection. When I listen and decide whether I want to put an album in my collection or remove it from the playlist, being able to delete the whole album at once from the playlist would be really helpful. It's one of the few things I miss about spotify.

I've tried closing and reopening the Rdio app and I have also restarted my computer. I am still having the same problem. It takes about three tries to delete all the songs from an album from my "To Check Out" playlist and it still sometimes accidentally starts deleting songs from the next album on the list. It's hard to describe. I will click the "x", the song will be removed, and I'll keep clicking the "x" in succession and then suddenly the last four or five songs I just deleted will pop back up on the playlist. It will happen a few times until I've finally managed to remove the whole album from the playlist.

I've just run out of free music, but I think I will still take the chance on a subscription. This one problem is annoying but not a deal breaker, and overall I like the app and Rdio's help site a lot more than spotify. :)

Also wanted to add that if I count to about three every time after deleting one song before deleting the next from the playlist, that seems to prevent the problem I have when trying to delete songs more quickly.

Hi Kara,

Thanks for your reply, and I'm sorry to hear you're still seeing problems with editing playlists. I've been able to reproduce a bit of latency when I delete around 15 tracks in very rapid succession, however, I haven't seen any deleted tracks reappear as you've described. I'll mention your reports as well as the latency I've seen with playlist editing to the rest of the team, and we'll continue working on improvements.

I'm glad to hear you're interested in subscribing—please don't hesitate to contact us at any point in the future if you have any problems or questions.

Cheers,
Mike
