No play controlls

Kalle Hansson Aug 15, 2012 03:08AM PDT

I just installed the windows desktop app but have some problems.

- No play controlls. I cant see Play, stop etc. And no volume contoll.
If I change to the minified player controlls I actually get them, but not the rest then...

- The app auto-plays the latest song on top level volume! *aagghh*

- The graphics and text looks messy or blured.

What to do?

Hi Kalle,

Thanks for writing in, and we're sorry to hear you're having difficulty with Rdio for Windows. Uninstalling the app and then reinstalling it will likely resolve your issue. If not, is it possible that you have custom DPI (text size) settings on your machine. That can affect the display in similar ways.

To uninstall:

1. Choose "Control Panel" from the Start menu.
2. Click "Programs and Features"
3. Select Rdio from the list of installed programs and click "Uninstall"

To reinstall:

1. Download and run the file Rdio.application from http://www.rdio.com/media/static/desktop/win/Rdio.application

Please let me know if that fixes your issue.

Best,
Emilie

The reinstallation didn´t help.
Text is still blured.
I don´t have any play or volume controlls.
And should it auto-play?

I will look for the DPI font settings.

I use a laptop with a larger external screen. It probably uses another resolution that may mess it up?

Hi Kalle,

Can you unhook your external monitor and test out the app on your laptop's normal screen? That would be a good way to tell if it's the external screen that's messing it up or not.

Same problem here, caused by having Medium DPI settings. The top right icons also overlay the account name.

The app should support different DPI settings.

Unusable until fixed.

This is definitely a problem related to DPI settings. I tried the compatibility options at the bottom of this article:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/patricka/archive/2010/04/15/why-does-a-high-dpi-setting-make-my-application-look-fuzzy-and-have-clipped-text.aspx

Also, since Windows 7+ is supposed to do DPI on a per user basis, I tried (on Windows 8) adding a second user account with normal DPI settings and running the Rdio app as my 96 DPI user (via the runas command).

Nothing I tried works. The mini-player with the older look seems to be ok, so I just use that on my laptop. The main application is pretty much unusable though.

Any update on this? I tried to disable DPI Scaling on the app specifically but it does not rectify the issue at all.
