Bug? Mac player starts automatically playing from recent history

Michiel de Boer Aug 24, 2012 10:21AM PDT

Recently, my Rdio mac player is acting funny. When I open the app, it starts automatically playing a song from my recent history, even though my queue is empty. Is this a bug?

Mac OS 10.8 + Rdio Desktop

Hi Michiel,

Thanks for writing in. You can switch this auto-Station, or turn this functionality off completely directly from your Queue. Just click the ON/OFF icon, or use the arrow next to the currently set Station to change to something new.

More details on these auto-Station playback options can also be found right here: http://help.rdio.com/customer/portal/articles/58972

I hope that clears things up. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Cheers,

Thanks for the quick reply Kevin. Not sure I understand though. Why did the app spontaneously start doing this? I don't recall changing anything. And where exactly do I switch this mysterious function off?

Hi Michiel,

Here's how to edit or turn off your auto-Station: http://help.rdio.com/customer/portal/articles/58972#autostation Navigating to your Queue will show you which Station is playing (Heavy Rotation, a specific artist's station, etc.).

I hope that clears things up. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Cheers,

I'm sorry to say, Kevin, but this does not clear things up. Here's the situation:
- My queue is empty and my station is off
- The app does not play anything - good
- I close the app, and reopen it
- It starts playing spontaneously, seemingly the last song in the history - bad

Hi Michiel,

Sorry about that, thanks for the additional information. Here are a few things to try:

1) Make sure you have Rdio open in a single instance (desktop, browser or tab), not multiple instances at the same time.
2) Try doing a hard reload by hitting CTRL + clicking the whitespace and select Reload.
3) Quit and restart the Mac App, then try using the app again.
4) Try deleting and reinstalling the Mac app.

If the desktop app is still acting up, would you try quitting out of Rdio completely and deleting the prefs file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.rdio.desktop.plist? Note: This folder is hidden on Lion, so you'll have to search for ~/Library/Preferences/ in the finder menu using Go -> Go to Folder.

Thanks for your patience,

Per your suggestions:
1) This was not the issue, as I did not have multiple sessions open
2) Did not solve the issue
3) Did not solve the issue
4) Did not solve the issue

So finally, deleting the com.rdio.desktop.plist file: at least, the app does not start playing spontaneously anymore, but it still puts the last song from the playlist history in the fresh queue - huh?
