Any chance of a native mac app?

Zach Waugh Oct 07, 2011 11:47AM PDT

I love Rdio, but the current Flash/HTML based desktop app is slow and buggy. It seems the iPhone/iPad apps are native, is there a possibility of getting a completely native, Cocoa-based desktop app in the future?

Hey Zach,

Thanks for your feedback. Rdio for Mac uses a combination of native OS X components (the player at the top, managing the downloads and matching your iTunes library) and the content pages from Rdio.com (all HTML/CSS/JS). We use Flash on Rdio.com and therefore in the Rdio for Mac app to manage the streaming of audio. This is to satisfy security requirements imposed on us by the music rightsholders.

As we continue to develop Rdio on the web, mobile, home audio devices and of course on the desktop, we'll look into alternative ways to manage audio streaming, but for now we're going with Flash.

Cheers,
Madelyn
