Blocked Plug-in

S.J. Barlament Mar 08, 2013 08:43AM PST

I keep getting a "Blocked plug-in" message. It appears onscreen for about a second or less just as the desktop app is starting up, and then it goes away and everything seems to function as expected. Any idea what might be causing this? (And what I can do about it?)

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in. Any chance you're using a Flash blocker in Safari?

Best,
Ingo

I'm not. I do block cookies from third parties and advertisers, though. And I do run NoScript and AdBlock Plus in Firefox.

Hi there,

Do you get the same message when you access Rdio.com from Safari? Also, please be sure you're seeing SUCCESSes under RTMP Port Checking here: http://player.bitgravity.com/debug/ and that you're using the latest version of Flash: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Best,
Ingo

No "Blocked Plug-in" message upon visiting Rdio.com from Safari.

All SUCCESSes confirmed.

Definitely using the latest version of Flash (11.6.602).

Hi there,

Would you try deleting and reinstalling the Mac app?

If the desktop app is still acting up, would you try quitting out of Rdio completely and deleting the prefs file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.rdio.desktop.plist?

Note: This folder is hidden on Mountain/Lion, so you'll have to search for ~/Library/Preferences/ in the finder menu using Go -> Go to Folder.

Best,
Ingo

I have similar problem. At startup (or when i press Cmd-R) I get "Blocked plug-in" message.

BUT in my case I am unable to play any music (browsing and searching are functioning).

Hitting Play button sometimes ends with ("Flash is required in this browser
You will need to install (or unblock) the Flash plug-in to use Rdio in this web browser.") but sometimes does nothing.

Already tried these suggestions mentioned here but no success.

Now what?

Deleted and reinstalled. Deleted the prefs file. It's still happening.

I should mention that the player, when launched, seems to be working correctly. It's just that the "Blocked Plug-in" message shows up for a second (a millisecond, even) as it's just starting up and then disappears. So whatever the problem is, at least it's not keeping me from being able to use the player.

I also have the latest Flash version and have tried deleting my app and app prefs.

I listen to Rdio via the Mac desktop most of the day every day and this happens maybe a dozen times a day to me. The 'fix' is to kill Rdio and relaunch it. Sometimes it'll play for hours and sometimes it'll play for half of a song before it hits this again.

It's incredibly annoying, please fix this.

Thank you,
Jesse

Hi there,

We rolled out a fix for the issue at the end of last week. Can you let me know if you're still seeing the Flash-required/blocked pop-ups?

Best,
Ingo

Yep, still seeing it. No change at all.

Hi there

It appears our initial fix didn't work for everybody. We would like to get some streaming logs from your app so our team can take a look. To enable the webkit inspector for your Mac app so you can send us error logs of the streaming issues:

- Open the Terminal Utility (Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
- Paste the following line without quotes into the text field, then hit enter: "defaults write com.rdio.desktop WebKitDeveloperExtras -bool true"
- Open the Mac app, and log in
- Right-click on the white-space of the app, and select "Inspect element," then click over to the "Console" tab, then start playing music
- When you encounter the pop up, copy the last 100 or so lines from the console, and paste them into your reply.

If you could open up the console before they start streaming anything so that we have the full logs from start of streaming, that would be ideal.

Thank you!
Ingo

argh.. it was a long one with logs and all :) Well i guess it took too long while i was trying all those things above. Anyway same problem here.. but i noticed that if i just ignore that error msg and just hit the play, all is fine. Reloading the page, error msg comes back, but music keeps playing.

(continued) ...Also, I'm using the FlashBlocker add-on in Chrome. Chrome is my primary browser; I rarely use Firefox or Safari.

I've tried unsuccessfully to add www.rdio.com to my whitelist in that add-on. I experience the issue on this thread in the Rdio App and it prevents me from controlling my iPhone to play music in "remote mode" (Rdio App remotely controlling iPhone).

correcting ... I ¨fixed¨ the problem by signing out and logging again, thing is, my Rdio App stopped working while changing songs,

Song. The Killers - Believe me Natalie

it was weird cause when I logged out I started the program again PLAYING ANOTHER SONG it was all good, it was playing for 20 min not stopping, then suddenly when in my playlist comes to the The Killers song the App stopped again and appeared the message "Flash is required in this browser" ... so I did the same thing again by not playing this specific song again and its working normally since then... I wonder if this audio file is bugged and its messing with our head by doing the all things possibly to solve the program like updating safari, flash, uninstalling softwares etc.

lemme know if worked for you guys ! hope to be any help
